I really wanted to share this interview Stephen Colbert did with Kathy Griffin because it's a perfect example of the best way to deal with an almost impossible life situation. Kathy Griffin really did take that lemon she was dealt and make fantastic lemonade.
I have many clients, as you might imagine, going through unprecedented hard times in life. The question is always what do you do? What is the best way to maneuver those super difficult times?
From a spiritual perspective the answer is: Look to learn from what's happening and look to see where the door is opening. As you all know, when one door closes, another door opens. The trick is to not look back, not try to keep that old door open. Instead look forward, see where the door is opening. It might not happen right away. You might not see it right away, but eventually a new path appears organically.
That is the easiest and least painful way to get through really difficult times in life.
Almost always, the door that opens is the portal to a new, better life -- but a different life. If we can accept that it will be different and if we can get excited about it, we have successfully made the transition from the old to the new and entered a whole new phase of our life.
We do move through life phases. It's how life seems to operate. If we know this and accept it, we won't fight to keep the old, but get excited and look forward to the new.
I am so impressed with how Kathy handled her major life crisis. Great example for all of us.
